Today was a day of celebration in West Augustine despite the recent tragedies still heavy on the hearts of so many in the community. Today was about cheering on and celebrating the young members from the community, who are headed to Tallahassee for the State Championship as a part of the St. Augustine High School Football team.

All along West King Street, family members, St. Augustine High School alumni, and supporters of the St. Augustine High School football team joined in to cheer on the team, as the Yellow Jackets motorcade led by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office left St. Augustine High School and drove through town passing Sebastian Middle, heading down US1, and then going through the west side community nearby two of its feeder schools the Webster School and R.J. Murray Middle School.
"Last time they won was in 2005, and I was there then," says Stephen Johnson, from the R J Murray High School Alumni Care Association. "I'm not gonna be able to make it there tomorrow, but I wish them all the best of luck. We've got a great bunch of guys."

"I want to wish the Jackets safe travels to the championship state game," says SAHS alumni Twanesha Lyons. "My son Devonte Lyons is a running back, he's number six. I'm proud of him, it's his senior year, and he's been working hard for this. I'm proud of all the boys, I also have nephews, my son's friends. We're gonna bring the ring home."
With proud signs, Yellow Jacket shirts, and the spirit of Once a Jacket, Always a Jacket, eyes were damp, and hearts were full, as the St. Augustine High School Football team busses drove through town.

Many of the family and supporters out in West Augustine today are headed to the game in Tallahassee tomorrow to join the SAHS school spirit busses at the stadium.
On Friday, December 1st, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets defeated the Dunbar Tigers 35 - 14 and advanced to play in the Class 3S state championship game against the Mainland Buccaneers from Daytona Beach.
This is only the fourth state championship game in SAHS football history. In 2005, the Yellow Jackets won the state championship.
The game will be played on Thursday at Florida A&M in Tallahassee with the Kickoff at 3 p.m. St. Augustine High School has organized busses filled with students to go, and the school is encouraging anyone who are able to come out and support.
